I thought I'd share one of the projects I have back-burnered for awhile. I found this General Engines Co. Model D Type 21 (manufactured in Franklin Park, IL) engine half buried in the woods behind an elderly gentleman's house. It was seized tight. After much time soaking it with Marvel Mystery Oil I was able to free the piston from the cylinder. Miraculously the cylinder honed-up pretty nicely. I was able to get rings from Otto Gas Engine Works. I cleaned it and reassembled as much as I could. I'm still scrounging for missing parts. I have a flywheel but a couple of teeth were broken off. I J-B Weld Bonded them back into place but I certainly wouldn't want to go much above an idle with it. (This will be a show engine, anyhow). I need a blower housing and to figure out how to work an ignition system into place. A coil from a B & S fit perfectly so that part is done.
Note the odd layout of the engine. If you position the PTO on the left and the flywheel on the right then the carb is on the forward side of the engine. Also, the exhaust exits over the crankshaft.
If you have any General Engines parts please let me know.
