You'll probably be surprised to find out that it's only 6.3HP. The 1600 was part of the Red Horse series. It's an industrial grade engine built for extreme durability. The big brother to this guy was the 2500 series which produced a bit more than 9HP. Both engines first went into production in 1953. No, it's not possible to determine the specific year of manufacture by the model/serial number. Unfortunately Clinton didn't consider that in their numbering practice.
