Maytag Paint Colors
1911 Through 1916
upright battery type engines have red crankcase, gas tank and flywheels,
with blue trim on the 1 5/16" wide face of the flywheel center hub or
so-called flat pulley, and blue cylinder.
1917 Through 1920
are all blue engines with red gas tanks.
1921 Through 1923
upright magneto type engines are all blue with aluminum back plate and
flywheel with blue flat belt pulley.
( Note ) The above colors are Carmine Red as used on 1979
to 1982 Chevy Trucks, manufacturers code is # 70. The blue color is very
close to new unwashed Dark Blue denim jeans.
1923 Through 1927
model 82 single main bearing engines were painted a little darker green
than the paint used on the later two main bearing engines.
1927 Through 1937 two main bearing engines
( Single Cylinder ) were medium dark green. Some of the 1931 short deep
fuel tank engines were painted medium olive drab color.
1937 all of the first twin-cylinder engines were
painted with the single cylinder engine green color.
1937 Through 1938
The very last of the 1937 Through 1938 twin cylinder engines were painted
all green except a black crystal wrinkle finish on the starter pedal assembly,
starter cover and the starter gear assembly.
1939 Through 1942
the twin cylinder engines were painted with black wrinkle finish.
1945 Through 1952
the twin cylinder engines were painted with a smooth black enamel. |

Notes:
All of the single cylinder horizontal engines and all for the twin-cylinder
engines used the same color on their flat pulleys or V-belt pulleys what
ever the engines were painted.
The 1932 and older Maytag engines used two-color black on gold decals.
The rest of the Maytag engines 1933 Through 1952 used the regular three color
red, gold, and black decals.
October 1945 Serial number 981250 was the first engine using the new 72 DA magneto. |

Twin Cylinder Engine Fuel Tanks Used.
August 1937 # S-306 cast iron tank with mounting holes in bottom of the tank.
# S-321 cast iron tank with mounting lugs on the four corners.
# S-322 cast iron frame tank.
# S-331 cast iron, long fuel tank used on Maytag light plant.
# S-334 aluminum tank, this engine was mounted up under the washing machine.
September 3, 1941 serial number 961755 was the first engine using # S-339 grey
cast iron fuel tank. This engine was mounted up under the washing machine. |
